Together, China and India will account for half of global growth this year. China is simply a huge market which cannot be ignored.

It is clear to me that the end of China’s zero-Covid policy presents new opportunities for British BusineA ss.

China's economy is fast-growing and re-opening to the world:

  • British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are to fly daily from the UK to China again starting from 23rd April. Read more about this here.
  • The Chinese Government’s main priority is to boost economic growth. Expanding domestic consumption, attracting foreign investment, working towards a stabilisation of the property market, and speeding up technological innovation are all part of this economic growth strategy.
  • Global economic growth and wealth creation in the coming decade will be defined by Asia’s dynamism, with China at its core.
  • The number of middle-class consumers is set to grow to 35% of the population by 2030, up from just 10% in 2015. In a nutshell, China will add an extra 340 million middle-class consumers - more than the entire US population - during this decade.
  • China offers tremendous growth opportunities across a range of sectors.

And I am delighted to say that many of our Members and Clients are already re-focusing on the China opportunity with the help of the China-Britain Business Council's teams in both the UK and China.
