The China Re-set: 2023 offers brighter prospects for UK businesses doing business in and with China

There is a sense of renewed optimism regarding the Chinese economy now that China is open to the world once again. And my advice to any UK company with ambitions of any level for the Chinese market is to act now and not wait until it is too late, as you will be left behind the curve. I call this “Getting China Ready”.
What do I base this optimism on you may ask?
For starters, China is returning to normal faster than expected and China’s economic recovery is well under way. Colleagues in China tell me that you can feel it on the streets, you can feel it in the restaurants and bars, and you can feel it in the shops. It did not surprise me that the International Monetary Fund upgraded its economic growth forecast and now expects the Chinese economy to grow 5.2% this year, up from its October 2022 forecast of 4.4%, bringing it in line with the forecasts of some of the world’s leading economists.
