UK-China Industrial Decarbonisation Workshop - Steel Sector
The China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) hosted the UK-China Industrial Decarbonisation Workshop - Steel Sector was held on Tuesday, 12 March 2024 in Beijing, in partnership with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and Centre for International Economic and Technological Cooperation (CIETC) of the Minister for Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Dashiell Caldwell, Minister Counsellor, British Embassy Beijing and Zhu Gang, Deputy Director General of the Centre for International Economic and Technological Cooperation (CIETC), MIIT attended the event and delivered opening remarks.
This conference is one of the as one of the event series of the China-UK Industrial Cooperation Partnership. The event gathered leading businesses, industry associations, universities and think tanks to exchange and discuss the steel industry policies, industrial decarbonisation experience, carbon reduction standards and technologies of China and the UK.
Leading businesses, industry associations, academic institutions and think tanks convened at the event to discuss decarbonisation standards and technologies, exchange decarbonisation experiences, and share steel industry policies from China and the UK. Companies from China's and the UK's upstream and downstream steel industry chains had an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue with the governments, institutions, and businesses of both nations during this event.
Opening Remarks
Dashiell Caldwell, Minister Counsellor, British Embassy Beijing, stressed that the UK and China have a long history of collaboration in energy transition through our clean energy partnership. While acknowledging the importance of the industrial decarbonisation in the world's overall emissions picture, he emphasised that the UK government will continue to support mutual understanding, and draw practical and mutually beneficial collaboration in this important area for both of our countries and for the world.
Zhu Gang, Deputy Director General of the Centre for International Economic and Technological Cooperation (CIETC), MIIT, reiterated that China-UK relationship is an important part of China's global partnership. It is in line with both national and international development trends to strengthen the China- UK partnership. The knowledge gained from this workshop will be put to better use in supporting the digital and green transformation of the steel industries in China and the UK, maintain the smooth and steady operation of the global steel industry supply chain, and promote the growth and prosperity of the steel industry globally.
