Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles, Chair of CBBC, delivered welcome remarks, underlining the crucial importance of IP within today's complex business environment. Moreover, he emphasised the importance of the UK-China trade relationship and the role that CBBC plays in facilitating exchanges.
Adam Williams, the Chief Executive and Comptroller General of UK Intellectual Property Office attended the event and made opening remarks on behalf of UK IP authority during his visit to Beijing. He extended his congratulations on the launch of the CBBC IP Working Group and stressed his positive outlook on the CBBC IP programmes, which he believed would bring IP stakeholders together, enabling them to exchange ideas and effectively address various issues.

Together with Samuel Stone, UK IPO Attaché to China, Max Jiang, Senior IP Officer from British Consulate-General Shanghai presented on the IPO’s priorities in China, as well as their understanding of current issues and trends. They elaborated on the top concerns of businesses in 2024, such as trademark, copyright, and enforcement cases respectively, thereby offering valuable perspectives that enabled the attendees to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the IP landscape in the Chinese market.
Dorie Wong, a Partner at Bird & Bird, delivered a presentation centered around the currently trending topics of artificial intelligence (AI) and Trademark. In her talk, she delved into the specific opportunities and potential risks that businesses might encounter in the context of AI and trademarks in China. Specifically, she separately introduced the liability of AI-generated content regarding copyright infringement and the damages in infringement cases.
