CBBC Speaks at Lushan Conference for Global Business Leaders

1
08/09/2022
From 6th to 8th September 2022, the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) was invited to attend the Lushan Conference for Global Business Leaders (LCGBL) 2022. LCGBL 2022, which was jointly hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Jiangxi Provincial Government, gathered global business leaders, senior executives from international business organisations, and senior Chinese officials to discuss sustainable development of the global economy in the post-pandemic era. The conference closely followed the launch of the Sustainable Market Initiative’s (SMI) China council this past August.

1

While delivering an opening address, Tom Simpson, Managing Director of CBBC China, stated that LCGBL 2022 carries an important message regarding the role of business in the transition towards a sustainable and carbon neutral future. There is great potential for further cooperation between the UK and China if both countries play on their strengths to mutually work towards sustainability. CBBC and the UK business community look forward to maintaining close collaboration and working together to support the net zero goals and the growth of bilateral trade and investment between the UK and China.

Tom Simpson also met with Mr CHEN Xiaoping, the vice governor of Jiangxi. Senior executives from CBBC member companies, including HSBC, bp, Rio Tinto and Standard Chartered, participated in the LCGBL 2022.

SMI was initialised by His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales. Its mission is to build a coordinated global effort to enable the private sector to accelerate the transition to a sustainable future. CCPIT launched SMI China Council on 22nd August 2022. For further information about SMI, please visit https://www.sustainable-markets.org/.
