cambs seminar
06/08/2025
On Tuesday, 8 July, the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) was pleased to co-host the Cambridge International Education Seminar (CIES), held at King’s College, University of Cambridge. The seminar was delivered in collaboration with CL Global Academy, a CBBC member and our partner for the event, and focused on fostering UK-China collaboration in the field of engineering.

The event brought together senior representatives from government, academia and professional bodies to share perspectives on current opportunities and developments in engineering education and research.

Proceedings began with opening and welcome remarks from Sarah Chidgey, Head of International Education at the Department for Business and Trade. This was followed by a series of keynote presentations, including Professor Liu Bin from the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, Nanjing University, who discussed “Educating for Global Challenges: How NJU’s Premier Undergraduate Experience Redefines New Engineering Disciplines”. Professor Jon Frampton, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (China) at the University of Birmingham, outlined “The University of Birmingham’s Collaboration with the National Innovation Centre par Excellence”. Professor Rob Wallach, Fellow at King’s College, Cambridge, examined “AI Innovations & Sustainability in Cambridge”, and Emma Ducker, Publisher of Journals and Conference Proceedings at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), spoke on “The IET – Supporting Global Collaboration”.

Following the presentations, participants engaged in panel discussions, thematic roundtables and networking sessions, which provided a valuable platform for sharing experiences and exploring potential avenues for academic collaboration. The seminar welcomed distinguished academic guests from:

  • University College London

  • Keele University

  • University of Warwick

  • University of Sheffield

  • University of Leeds

  • University of Birmingham

  • Nanjing University

  • Tianjin University

  • Jilin University

  • Beihang University

  • Southeast University

We extend our sincere thanks to all speakers, contributors and attendees for their valuable insights, which enriched the discussions and underscored the importance of continued collaboration between UK and Chinese institutions in advancing engineering education and research.
