CBBC Meets with Suzhou Party Secretary Fan Bo and Mayor Wu Qingwen

11/02/2026
On Monday 2 February, the China–Britain Business Council (CBBC) Chief Executive Peter Burnett and delegation met with Fan Bo, Party Secretary of Suzhou, and Wu Qingwen, Mayor of Suzhou.

During the meeting, Secretary Fan highlighted CBBC’s long-standing role in supporting UK–China business engagement and welcomed closer cooperation between Suzhou and British companies. He noted Suzhou’s interest in expanding collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence, life sciences, new energy, and low-carbon technologies, and encouraged more UK businesses to explore investment opportunities in the city. Fan also reaffirmed Suzhou’s commitment to providing an open, stable and internationally oriented business environment, supporting key UK–China cooperation projects, and helping British companies establish and grow their presence in Suzhou.

Peter Burnett reflected on the recent meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, noting that high-level engagement has helped create renewed momentum in the UK–China relationship and opened up opportunities for deeper cooperation across a wide range of sectors and regions. He said that Suzhou’s strong industrial base, deep talent pool and high-quality business environment make it an attractive destination for international investors. CBBC attaches great importance to its relationship with Suzhou and looks forward to working closely together to strengthen trade and investment links, encourage greater people-to-people exchange, and deliver tangible outcomes that benefit both sides.
