CBBC IP Roundtable with Taobao & Tmall Group in Shanghai

Opening Remarks
In the opening remarks, Lynn Xu, CBBC's Director of Membership and Events, highlighted the roundtable's purpose to foster a platform for dialogue between CBBC members and Chinese e-commerce companies. She also encouraged UK brands to make full use of the opportunities to grasp e-commerce platform's brand protection mechanisms for safeguarding their intellectual properties in China.
Samuel Stone, IP Attaché to China, from the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO), delivered opening remarks, emphasising the success of the MOU signing between CBBC and Alibaba, which was witnessed by IPO's leadership. "It was proven to be a successful mechanism to bridge Alibaba and UK right owners and we are glad to see some of the experiences and outcomes of previous CBBC roundtables are now applied in Alibaba’s system." said Samuel.
Followed by opening remarks, Guo Ying, Head of Intellectual Property and Brand Cooperation Operations of Taobao & Tmall Group, delivered a comprehensive keynote speech on IPR Production of Taobao & Tmall Group and shared his insights on IP protection of the e-commerce platform.
At the roundtable, a total of 10 rights owners from the luxury, food & drinks, publishing, retail and education sector and law firms engaged in discussions. The primary focus was on understanding Taobao & Tmall’s brand protection and Alibaba IP Protection Platform (IPP) mechanism and latest practices. Representatives from member companies and partners raised questions about their IP experience and engaging in an exchange of ideas with Guo Ying regarding the IPP complaint procedure, efficiency and IP enforcement.
Going forward, CBBC will continue to cooperate with Chinese e-commerce companies to develop proactive programmes, inviting interested right owners to join CBBC IP initiatives and events.
