CBBC Hosts Inaugural UK-China Brand Excellence Summit

On Wednesday, 21st May, the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) hosted UK-China Brand Excellence Summit at the Hengfu Art Center in Shanghai. As a sister event to CBBC’s flagship “China Consumer” forum in London, the summit brought together approximately 140 industry professionals from leading Chinese and British consumer brands, along with representatives from key industry associations and government.

Peter Burnett OBE BBS, Chief Executive of CBBC, emphasised at the start of the event that the Chinese market is a crucial part of global expansion for UK businesses. "Any company, with a powerful and established brand, can only aspire to be global if it is prepared to build awareness and recognition for the qualities of its brands in China. It requires wisdom, endurance, creativity, collaboration, but for sure it cannot be ignored. " he said.

Through a series of keynote speeches, brand fireside chats, and interactive panel discussions, panellists and speakers delved into innovative localisation strategies for British brands entering the Chinese market while charting growth pathways for Chinese brands with global ambitions—all underpinned by their firsthand industry experience and enriched with actionable insights. The agenda spotlighted critical topics including market adaptation strategies, globalisation, AI-driven retail innovation, and sustainability best practices in the consumer sector.

Tom Simpson, Managing Director, China, CBBC, delivered the closing remarks. He reaffirmed CBBC’s ongoing commitment to supporting UK businesses in China and helping Chinese companies thrive in the UK. “We hope this summit serves as a bridge for dialogue and collaboration,” he said. “Today, we explored a range of engaging and important topics — including how leading British consumer brands are connecting with Chinese consumers at a local level.”

CBBC will continue to support UK businesses in China and Chinese companies to succeed in the UK. Stay tuned for more CBBC events in the consumer sector, such as the China Consumer in London on 15 October.
