CBBC Hosts Hybrid Members’ Briefing with Brian Davidson, His Majesty’s Consul General to Hong Kong
CBBC was pleased to host a hybrid members’ briefing on 12th March with Brian Davidson, His Majesty’s Consul General to Hong Kong, to discuss the outlook for Hong Kong’s business landscape and its role in the UK–China relationship.
Held in partnership with the Hong Kong Association at PwC’s More London office, the discussion was moderated by Sir Charles Bowman, PwC adviser and CBBC board member. Closing remarks were delivered by Peter Burnett, CBBC CEO, and Lewis Neal, HM Trade Commissioner for China and Hong Kong.
Some key takeaways from Brian’s briefing included:
- Hong Kong’s unique role in the UK–China corridor: With around 40% of UK trade with China flowing through Hong Kong, the territory continues to serve as a critical conduit for commercial engagement between the two markets.
- Hong Kong within China’s next phase of development: As China advances its next Five-Year Plan, Hong Kong is positioning itself to add value within that framework — growing in confidence as a differentiated territory and international financial centre supporting capital flows, innovation and development across the Greater Bay Area.
- Engage early and build long-term relationships: Brian urged UK businesses to make the case internally for Hong Kong’s continued importance, encouraging boards to visit, engage with the market directly and invest in long-term relationships.
Thank you again to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office for their insights, and to PwC for generously hosting the discussion.
