Tom Simpson, Managing Director and Chief Representative in China, CBBC, delivered an opening remark highlighting that the dialogue comes as the Shanghai lockdown nears the two-month mark and that case numbers have been steadily dropping, signaling the beginning of the end of this current outbreak. CBBC members are focusing away from the initial steps that had to be taken during the lockdown and shifting more towards recovery and getting their business back up and running as normal. With the support of the Shanghai Municipal Government, the UK business community looks forward to ensuring that the recovery process goes smoothly and safely over the coming weeks and months.

Dialogue between SCOFCOM and CBBC members

CBBC members took the opportunity to raise questions and comments with the Shanghai Municipal Government about key concerns related to the months-long pandemic control measures in Shanghai and the path to resuming normal business and production in Shanghai.

CBBC members raised questions and comments during the meeting

Officials from six corresponding departments of the Shanghai Municipal Government responded to specific questions raised by eight member companies including JLR, IHG, Reckitt & Manon, GSK, Burberry, Swire Group, Micro Focus, and BSI.

The dialogue was hosted by Ms ZHU Yi, Deputy Director General of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, who concluded that the situation in Shanghai is improving and that SCOFCOM, along with other relevant government departments, will do everything they can to help UK businesses.
