Suzhou

Suzhou is one of the key destinations of UK investments in China. CBBC members have a strong presence in Suzhou ranging from production facilities to R&D centres that contributes to making the UK the largest European investor in Jiangsu in 2020. Examples of UK investment in Suzhou include IHG’s 19 hotels, branches of HSBC and Standard Chartered, production facilities of Reckitt Benckiser, Unilever, Jaguar Land Rover, Smiths Group, Colloids, GSK, Rio Tinto, and Smith+Nephew, among others.

In partnership with the Jiangsu Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, CBBC organised the first UK-Jiangsu Business Dialogue in Nanjing on 10th June. 10 UK companies raised questions related to business environment and investment policy on the dialogue, which was attended by senior representatives from relevant departments of the Jiangsu Provincial Government.

About OSCAR

s

The Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research (OSCAR) is a partnership between the University of Oxford and the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) in China's Jiangsu Province to establish Oxford’s first overseas centre for research in physical and engineering sciences.

OSCAR is a multidisciplinary research, innovation, and technology centre focusing on research challenges and technologies that both complement its location in the SIP and capitalise on current Oxford research strengths, producing knowledge and innovation with the aim of developing the commercial potential of such technologies.

OSCAR occupies a 20,000 m² building with labs, offices, and incubator spaces spread across nine floors. Within the building there is provision for joint labs with Chinese partners for co-located, cooperative research. Research is directed by Oxford University academic staff, with most of the research activity to be undertaken by researchers employed locally by OSCAR.
