CBBC co-hosts Entering Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Legal Zone – China Britain Business and Legal Services Exchange Programme.
On Wednesday, 12 June, the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), in association with Shenzhen Qianhai Authority, RELX-LexisNexis, Workstation of Rights and Interests Protection for Shenzhen Enterprises with Foreign Investment, and Qianhai Belt and Road Legal Service Federation, organised Entering Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Legal Zone – China Britain Business and Legal Services Exchange Programme.
Liu Guilin, Deputy Director, Qianhai Authority, attended the programme and delivered a speech. In recent years, Qianhai-UK collaboration has had a series of successful track records. CBBC members HSBC, PricewaterhouseCoopers, RELX-Elsevier, and other well-known British organizations have landed in Qianhai for expansion. In the future, Qianhai intends to expand its collaboration with UK-based businesses and professional organizations to support the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Song Liang, Director of the Rule of Law Construction Department, Qianhai Authority, gave the introduction to the development of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong international legal zone.
Yu Changyong, convenor of the Trial Team for Foreign-related, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Cases, Qianhai Court, shared the practices and experiences in the application of foreign law.
Justin Sun, Shenzhen Representative Office Chief Representative, HFW, shared the opportunities and development of UK law firms in the Greater Bay Area.
Justin Sun discussed in detail the business opportunities and development of UK law firms in the Greater Bay Area. He analysed the advantages of the Greater Bay Area from three dimensions: economy, legal system and international cooperation, and outlined the current status of international law firms' business in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area, including the diversification and complexity of the demand for legal services. In addition, he also describes how international law firms should leverage their global perspective and service network to support local enterprises in "to the world" and proposes strategies for cooperation with local law firms.
Michael Sit, Managing Director, Greater China, LexisNexis, shared the practice of generative artificial intelligence in the legal profession from a China-Britain perspective.
Wing On Xu, Partner, Bird and Bird LLP, shared with the conference about the compliance risk of investing in Europe and the related solutions.
Wing On Xu discussed in depth the importance of foreign direct investment (FDI) regulation in overseas investment. Wing On Xu also emphasised the importance of understanding and responding to FDI regulation in the context of globalisation to protect national security and public interest.
Afterwards, moderated by Nora Wu, Research Solution Director, LexisNexis, there was a panel discussion on opportunities and challenges of China-Britain legal cooperation enabling the development of the Bay Area, which was led by Philip Kwok, Partner, JunHe, Anita Ma, Director of Standards Application, South China, British Standards Institution, Le Rong, Legal Director, Gowling WLG, Vivian Hui, Hong Kong Director of Pacific Century Global Legal Services Centre, Yingke Law Firm.
In this panel discussion, the four participants discussed in depth the key role of China-Britain legal cooperation in promoting regional economic development explored the opportunities and challenges faced during the cooperation and explored how to support the robust development of China-Britain legal cooperation in the global market.
