On the 22nd September, the Intellectual Property Office’s China team will run another webinar for UK businesses and rights owners. Guest speakers will provide practical tips on how best to protect and enforce your IP in China’s online and offline marketplaces.
For this session, we will be joined by Mick Ryan, Director of Brand Protection, Platform Governance at Alibaba. Mick will introduce the Alibaba’s intellectual property protection portal (“IPP”), which covers all of the company’s platforms. He will also introduce the newly launched “Simp’Ali” tool, which enables SMEs to navigate and more easily use the IPP.
The session will also feature Sophia Liu, Senior Associate at Gowling WLG. Sophia works on the frontline of IP enforcement in China, helping a wide range of foreign companies to protect their IP rights both online and offline.
Director of Brand Cooperation, Alibaba Platform Governance - Alibaba Group
Mick’s team is responsible for supporting IP rights holders to enforce their rights as effectively as possible on Alibaba’s various e-commerce platforms. This includes companies which are developing brand protection strategies using Alibaba tools such as the Intellectual Property Protection platform (the IPP), and those bringing cases for offline enforcement to Chinese authorities.
Starting in late 2020, Mick’s team launched “Simp’Ali IPR Cooperation”, which aims to make enforcement as streamlined as possible for SMEs.
