In March, two of China’s most influential political bodies meet at the “Two Sessions” to decide the formal political priorities for the Chinese government in the year ahead. In 2021, this session coincides with the adoption of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, which outlines Beijing’s development priorities for the next five years.

Raymond leads an award-winning China research team based in Hong Kong and Shanghai. The team has been recognised by KangaNews as the #1 Asian Research Pool in 2020, 2018 and 2017, and #2 Best Team for Asian Macroeconomic Research in 2016 by Asiamoney. He is the author of China’s Trump Card Cryptocurrency and its GameChanging Role in Sino-US Trade published by John Wiley & Son.
Raymond has garnered a strong following for his intellectual offering to ANZ’s institutional clients, including asset managers, central banks and treasurers of multinational corporations. He successfully timed the major changes in China’s growth momentum several times and hence the shifts of monetary policy well ahead of the market.
Raymond presents at international conferences regularly and shares his view on Bloomberg, CNBC, Di Yi Cai Jing. He is often invited to participate in consultative meetings with governments and supranational organisations. He serves on the steering committee of China Chief Economist Forum.
Raymond earned a Ph.D. in economics at Queen’s University, Canada, and is a holder of Financial Risk Manager (FRM). He started his career in 1997. Prior to joining ANZ, Raymond was Deputy Head of Asia Economic Research at Swiss Re.
 
Dr Jin Zhang

Dr Jin Zhang is tenured University Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the Judge Business School of Cambridge University. She is Deputy Director of the China Executive Leadership Programme (CELP), which brings together the chairmen and chief executive officers of multinational enterprises from the UK, US and Europe and their counterparts from China’s large firms in Cambridge for an annual interactive programme on topics concerning the world economy, innovation, sustainability and challenges of globalisation. Dr Zhang’s research focuses on challenges of globalisation and corporate change of global and Chinese businesses. Her published books include Catch-up and Competitiveness in China, Global Business Revolution and Cascade Effect, and China and the World Economy: Transition and Challenges. Dr Zhang is the Executive Series Editor of the Routledge series ‘China in the World’. She is currently co-editing two books on China’s economic, social and environmental transformation between 1978-2018.

Torsten Weller

Torsten Weller is a Policy Analyst at the China-Britain Business Council and he has worked on Chinese regulatory policies ​for more than five years. Prior to working for the CBBC, he was a consultant for an international law firm in Beijing and has worked as a policy analyst at the EU Delegation to China and Mongolia.  He holds a M.L. in International Relations and Chinese Politics from Tsinghua University as well as an M.A. in Geopolitics from the French Institute of Geopolitics (IFG) in Paris.
