With the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), the CBBC is pleased to invite members to attend a Government Affairs Working Group seminar on EU-China relations and the implications for the UK.

Join the CBBC’s China Policy Analyst, Joe Cash and MERICS Analyst, Grzegorz Stec for a deep dive session on:

  • The EU-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI);
  • How the deal will benefit UK firms;
  • How the EU-China relationship fits into an increasingly complicated geo-political jigsaw.
  • Open to members of the CBBC’s Government Affairs Working Groups and Premium Members offline in Beijing, and to all members online across China and the UK, this session will take the form of a discussion-based seminar.

Joining this session will enable you to put your questions to Grzegorz and Joe directly and discuss with other policy professionals how the EU-China relationship will likely play out and impact on the interests of British business.

The session will feature two short presentations on:

  • The state of EU-China relations & the pathway to CAI ratification;
  • What the UK can take away from the EU and Switzerland’s experience of negotiating with China.
  • Before moving to open discussion, where participants are free to put forward their questions or raise observations.

There will also be an informal social session afterwards to take the discussion further and allow participants to meet in an informal setting and round out the week over a few drinks. The CBBC Policy Team would be delighted if members joined us for Friday evening drinks to make use of our neighbourhood Blue Frog’s happy hour.
