CBBC Meets MOFCOM Vice Minister, Ling Ji at CIIE

event
06/11/2025
On Wednesday, 5 November, during the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), the Ministry of Commerce held a roundtable for foreign-invested enterprises. Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative Ling Ji chaired the meeting, emphasising that China will remain committed to high-level opening up, align with international trade standards, expand market access in the services sector, support key foreign investment projects, and ensure fair participation in government procurement. He added that China will strengthen tax incentives for reinvestment, enhance intellectual property protection, and further improve the business environment. Vice Minister Ling expressed hope that foreign companies will seize new opportunities under the 15th Five-Year Plan and grow together with China’s modernisation.

Kiran Patel, Senior Director, Commercial, and Deputy Head of China at the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), attended and spoke at the roundtable. He remarked:

"British companies remain committed to the Chinese market. In our last member survey, 67% of respondents were optimistic about their business’ prospects in China over the next 5-10 years - despite current economic challenges and a more complex geopolitical environment. Data released by China’s Ministry of Commerce last month further reflects this long-term confidence. In the first to third quarter of 2025, UK investment into China expanded by 21.1% year-on-year — the third fastest growth among all investing countries during this period.

The last 15 months of reengagement between the British and Chinese governments has set the bilateral relationship back on a constructive trajectory. This positive momentum is helping to spur an increase in UK-China business activity with investment expanding in the first three quarters of 2025 and we hope to see this continue – including among Chinese investors going to the UK.”
