The Chinese fragrance market continues to show strong growth potential despite economic challenges:

In 2021, the overall retail sales of China's perfume market accounted for only 4.1% of the world perfume market, but the compound annual growth rate in the past five years (2016-2021) was 21.4%, which is about ten times that of the world market. By 2026, the sales of the overall Chinese perfume market are expected to reach £4.4 billion, and the compound annual growth rate will remain at about 22.3%: about three times the overall growth rate of the world perfume market.

The growth of the fragrance market in China is a result of China’s growing middle class, Chinese consumers going after emotional consolation and sensory experiences, and the fact that the penetration rate of fragrance products in China (5%) is much lower than that of the US and Europe (50%).
The optimal price range for fragrances in China is RMB 500-1,000, accounting for 38% of all purchases. This "sweet spot" balances perceived luxury with accessibility. The RMB 1,000-2,000 segment is growing fastest at 24% YOY, as more affluent consumers seek exclusivity. However, it remains a smaller portion (18%) of the overall market.
