The British Library has opened an exhibition specially designed for recording. This exhibition presents a critical moment in the history of recordings - from the invention of the phonograph in 1877 to the present.

In 2021, the exhibition from the UK will be brought to Chinese fans for the first time. In July, the China-Britain Business Council will work together with the British Library, and the Publicity Department of the CPC Pingshan District Committee of Shenzhen to offer a new multimedia experience to Chinese audiences.

The exhibition will feature an eclectic selection of 50 rare and historic sounds illustrating the range of the British Library's sound archive, which is among the largest collections of recorded sound in the world. Fifty sound recordings will be included in the exhibition, spanning over 100 years. These will mark a number of ‘firsts’ and technological changes in the story of sound recording and also display the variety and breadth of the sound archive’s holdings.
