Join us for the first in a series of webinars that the China-Business Council is organising in partnership with the UK’s Chartered Institute of Export and International Trade.

Roger Marshall, Academy Trade and Customs specialist from the Chartered Institute for Export and International Trade will share his insights and guidance on the UK market to support Chinese exporters to grasp the key mechanisms that underpin the UK’s rules for moving goods into and out of the UK.

Following the proactive approach from the new UK government to reengage with China and place economic growth at the forefront of its agenda with key trade partners, we will through this session explore the UK market and areas of opportunity for Chinese exporters to enter the market for the first time or build on existing growth.

The outlook for Chinese companies in the UK is strong and in 2023. With a total GDP of £2.27 trillion, the UK remains firmly established as the second largest economy in Europe and the sixth largest in the world. Our independence of EU trade policy post Brexit reinforces our competitive position as a key destination for China enterprises to explore growth.

Involved in international trade over 40 years;

Five years with Sainsburys in the buying department. Moved into the meat-buying department, including the importation of New Zealand lamb and Danish pork;

Thirteen years working for one of the large Japanese trading companies. Involved in trading a variety of commodities and the financing and development of electronics production in Eastern Europe;

Twenty years as an original partner of a trading company specialising in consumer electronics;

Over three years as a trade consultant with the Chartered Institute.

Kiran Patel, Senior Director, China-Britain Business Council

Kiran Patel is the China-Britain Business Council’s senior director for commercial services and is responsible for the work of the organisation’s sector teams across its 9 offices within the mainland.

A former diplomat within the British Embassy’s Cultural & Education Section with the British Council, Kiran has been living in China since 2004 and has extensive knowledge of conducting public affairs, business development, marketing, and strategic communications in and with the country.

An active member of the UK-China business community for two decades, Kiran has also worked in the professional services sector. He is a fluent Mandarin speaker.
