The China Opportunity in Food & Drink:

Growing demand within China for imported food and drink products has been driven on a consumer-level basis. Chinese shoppers are becoming sophisticated and selective in their consumption of imported products, which are often perceived as being of a higher quality and safer to consume than their Chinese counterparts. In response to this, a wide range of platforms via which consumers can browse and purchase imported food and drink products have developed in China.

China’s food and drink market was one of the few to experience an average increase in consumer spending, with two thirds of Chinese consumers altering their food shopping habits as a result of the outbreak. As the Chinese consumer market is slowly recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown, online shopping, particularly the recent rise of Cross-border E-commerce, has made unique, niche and foreign brands accessible to Chinese consumers.
