CBBC X Beauty Shanghai Trade Mission (October 2025)
Why China, Why Now
China Market is Evolving – Be Present, Be Ready
China beauty and personal care market is projected to exceed 80 billion by 2025, with a forecasted growth of about 5% annual CAGR through 2028. The growth is driven by young, digital-first, premium-seeking consumers:
Skincare dominates the category; the segment grew by 9.5% in 2024. Moisturizers constitutes around 63%.
Men’s grooming is booming, spurred by Gen Z and young consumers. Men’s facial care set grew 235% year-on-year, with facial cleansers, creams, and BB products doubling in popularity.
Economic caution has led to more value-conscious spendings, with approximately one-third of Chinese consumers are more budget-aware, emphasizing the need for brands to match quality with perceived value.
Luxury and lifestyle consumption is shifting — consumers expect brands to show up and connect authentically.
For UK brands, succeeding in China requires being on the ground, understanding the market’s unique pace and complexity, and building trusted local relationships.
