British firms must work together to win business in China - August 2011
Stephen Phillips, Head of CBBC, offers advice to British companies in China. He states that a significant problem in China is that British companies do not offer the comprehensive, turnkey solutions that are regularly sought there. Around China's provinces and cities, it is often said that very few British companies can fulfil the whole solution that Chinese companies or local governments are looking for. While our companies often approach the market independently, companies from other countries often group together to tender for a deal. The other common observation is that British firms do not appear as hungry to win business as some of their international competitors. Thus to win business, companies should think about forming alliances and tackling entire projects, rather than offering just one part of a solution.
More Opportunity in China - July 2011
Chris Cotton, director of CBBC, outlines key drivers for UK business opportunities in China. He highlights opportunities arising from the government’s efforts to move up the value chain by developing technology-led sectors and high-value capabilities. Cotton also notes that China is the largest export market for UK Low Carbon goods and services, and will continue to offer good opportunities for green technology. In addition, the government’s reform of public services will generate new opportunities in a range of sectors, including healthcare, education, financial services and agriculture.
Ms. Bao Yi, Chief Representative of CBBC Chengdu Office said, “We can build up a stable relationship between Chengdu Business Organization and WCITF by standardizing our working procedures to ensure smooth cooperation. In Britain, CBBC will raise awareness through its website and various other platforms to draw the attention of interested parties’’.
