China in Britain - A special publication on Chinese investment in the UK
23 November
CBBC released 'China in Britain' at the UK-China Business Summit in Beijing. The bilingual publication looks at Chinese investment in the UK, investigating the drivers motivating the decisions of Chinese investors as well as looking at the nature and location of the companies who have come to the UK.
Case studies add further insight into these companies. Changan explain how the talent available coupled with potential cooperation with local universities and companies in the automotive sector have led them to open an R&D centre in Nottingham. Crystal CG report on the how they were lured by the Olympics and the wider European market. Alibaba share their plans, and a semiconductor firm in Lincolnshire tell us how Chinese investment has helped both sides.
We now have over 400 Chinese companies in the UK, working in a wide range of sectors, and this is set to increase further as more look to follow in their footsteps and 'Go Global'. CBBC surveyed a range of investors. One of the key drivers for coming to Britain is its role as a gateway to Europe and the wider international market - 94% of respondents listed this as a key advantage, and most companies sourcing their goods or services in the UK are now selling them into third markets.
The major problem faced is expanding market share, and corporate communications is acknowledged as the most important area of focus for companies' development in the coming years - a real opportunity for CBBC members with the skills to help them.
