All those years ago
E. S. Taylor (universally known as Jack) remembers serving on the working committee of SBTC from June 1959, eventually becoming chairman in the early 70s.
As deputy director-general (overseas) of the CBI, he was instrumental in finding SBTC office space in its premises in Tothill Street from 1964 and providing accounting and administration services to SBTC.
Jack Taylor helped pull together the various strands of expertise for the 1964 exhibition, approaching trade fair organisers and freight forwarders who had experience in fairs in Eastern Europe.
With Peter Marshall, he organised participation at the exhibition, manned the SBTC stand for the duration, and organised the debriefing at CBI at the end of 1964. During the course of the exhibition he, together with John Keswick, was received for a lengthy business discussion by China's premier, Zhou Enlai.
Jack Taylor also played a major part in getting the Sino-British Trade Review off the ground, seeing it as a means of disseminating business information and opportunities gleaned from the exhibition and further promoting Sino-British trade.
