Wuhan - Centre of the Middle Kingdom

Already a city of significant economic might, Wuhan has plans to become the fulcrum of a 30 million-person mega-city cluster in Central China. The scale of this development really brings into question the continued sustainability of a ‘China-wide business strategy’. It is time to consider these cities as markets in their own right.

Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province and a new British Consulate-General opens there in March 2014.

Key industry sectors: automotive; advanced manufacturing; iron/steel & ship building; science & technology; education; food production & logistics

Wuhan is committed to being the Chinese leader in smart and sustainable city
development – there will be another 10 million square metres of
‘green’ building floor space by the end of 2015. It is a leading base for vehicle manufacturing – capacity will reach 3 million vehicles by 2019. It is also China’s leading production base for fibre optics & lasers, and a major science & innovation hub (due to a highly educated and skilled local science-based workforce)
