Update | “Fast Track” System for UK Nationals Traveling to China

The China-Britain Business Council ("CBBC") has received further clarification from the Chinese Embassy in London on the "Fast Track" system for UK nationals travelling to China. The updates we have received are as follows:

  • The arrangement has now been expanded to include all provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions of China.
  • Individuals who already possess valid visas to enter China are required to apply for a new visa to enter China following the steps outlined below. This is due to the temporary suspension of China’s borders to entry by foreign nationals holding visas or residence permits announced on 26 March, 2020.
UK business people working in key sectors who wish to use the “Fast Track” arrangement can take the following steps to apply:

  • Request their employer or business partner (if wishing to travel for business) in China to make an application to the department of foreign affairs (or commerce) in the relevant Municipality or Province to seek approval for their return to work or business travel to China. Once approved, a "notice of approval" will be issued. CBBC recommends that you contact the local branch of the department of foreign affairs in the first instance and they will clarify if they can issue the approval or the department of commerce.
  • Take a nucleic acid test for Coronavirus in the UK at a medical institution designated by the UK Government and obtain certification for testing negative for COVID-19.
  • Book an appointment with the Consular section of the Chinese Embassy by emailing to zj_uk@mfa.gov.cn, and submit an application for a Chinese visa. Note the appointment can only be booked after the approval is received from the competent department of foreign affairs (or commerce) of the relevant Municipality or Province.

CBBC will continue to seek further updates and share as we receive them.
