CBBC was delighted to host the 5th iteration of its annual ‘China Outbound Conference’ in Shenzhen for the first time from 28-30 November. We are extremely thankful of the organisational support of CCPIT Shenzhen and all the sponsors and supporters of the event - ABP, EY, Santander, Silk Ventures, Lloyds Bank, London and Partners, City of London, Cocoon Networks, Mott MacDonald, GP Bullhound, InvestUK, Invest Northern Ireland, Atkins, Welsh Government, Knight Frank and QWOS
Shenzhen is a city that perhaps best embodies the remarkable transformation China has undergone over the past four decades. In 1979 Shenzhen was a small market town of just 30,000 people – fast forward to 2017 and the city is now the fourth largest city in China in GDP terms, with a population of over 12 million people. Between 1978 and 2014 Shenzhen’s GDP per capita grew an astonishing 24,569 per cent, making it one of the largest and wealthiest cities in China.
The remarkable growth in living standards in the city has in large part been driven by innovation in the economy, with that theme also a key thread running through the China Outbound Conference, and an increasingly important factor in trade and investment between the UK and China.
