China Eastern Airlines has been operating direct service between Shanghai and London Heathrow Airport for more than 10 years. On 7th December 2018, we were pleased to announce another direct flight between Shanghai and London Gatwick. London Gatwick Airport locates southeast England, 40km south of Central London, which is the second-biggest airport after London Heathrow. With the new route launched, it provides more options for passengers. There are 3 flights per week which on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday depart from Shanghai with the flight numbers of MU201/2.
At 06:10 on 7th December 2018, the Airbus A330 landed smoothly at London Gatwick Airport. At 09:00, in the departure hall of the Airport North Terminal, Mr. Guy Stephenson, Chief Commercial Officer of Gatwick Airport, led the heads of various departments of the airport together with Kevin Li, the general manager of the China Eastern Airlines London Office. More than 100 people, including local and sales agents, Chinese-funded enterprises in the UK, Phoenix Satellite TV, Chinese and English media, Chinese overseas representatives, held a warm and welcome ceremony.
Mr Guy Stephenson pleased to welcome China Eastern to Gatwick for the first time and are delighted that our passengers now have direct access to everything that China’s largest city has to offer. He is also looking forward to working together with China Eastern Airlines in the future.
General Manager Kevin Li said that with the steady advancement of the “One Belt, One Road” strategy, the Sino-British “Golden Age” has become more and more close to each other. This new route opened by China Eastern Airlines will further promote the friendship between Shanghai and London.
After all the passengers got on board, MU202 passed through the traditional ceremony - Water Salute, and then took off to the sky.
