Edinburgh—Dentons has advised Beijing-headquartered Goldwind, one of the world's largest wind turbine manufacturers, in respect of its £21 million subscription for shares in the capital of Oxford Photovoltaics Limited.

Goldwind is a world leading wind turbine technology and energy solutions provider, hailed as one of China's most innovative companies. It currently has over 31,000 operational wind turbines across six continents, and more than 50GW of installed wind capacity.

Oxford Photovoltaics is a leading technology business which develops and commercialises perovskite solar cells, enabling the accelerated transfer of technology into industrial scale silicon solar cell production. It has a research and development site in Oxford, and an industrial pilot line near Berlin.

David McGrory, partner in Dentons' Corporate practice in Edinburgh who led on the transaction, said, "As the only law firm in Scotland with a significant presence in China, we're delighted to have helped our client, a global leader in renewable energy, with its investment in this UK-based solar power business. Involving Dentons lawyers from the UK, China and Germany, this is a significant transaction for Dentons' Edinburgh office which fully demonstrates Dentons' unique position as a leading global law firm with local expertise."

Dentons combined with Dacheng (大成), China's largest law firm, in 2015. With 47 Chinese offices, the Firm provides a seamless service to clients with commercial interests in the region.

Alongside David McGrory, Edinburgh-based senior associate Heather Heys, who has over ten years of China related experience (including six years working in Beijing), also led on the transaction, with support from Capital Markets partner Emilia Shi in Shanghai, and Corporate partner Thomas Schubert in Berlin.
