Last Friday, Matthew Rous, Chief Executive, CBBC, led a delegation of UK companies to Changsha, Hunan province. Here the delegation was met by Mr Hu Zhongxiong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee, Mayor of Changsha, and Director of the Xiangjiang New Area Administration Committee.
The CBBC delegation was comprised of representatives from seven member companies, which spanned various sectors such as energy, education, banking, and big data. Mr Hu warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his wish for further support from CBBC in Changsha-UK exchange and cooperation in sectors such as commerce, finance, modern services, international education, and tourism. He also looks forward to further large projects in Changsha to lend momentum to the growth of the local economy.
Matthew Rous complimented previous successes in UK-Changsha cooperation. He talked about planned cooperation with Changsha in energy, education, finance, and the creative industries, and emphasised that the UK and Changsha could work more closely together to achieve further success.
On the same day, Matthew Rous also led BP and Chiway Education Group to visit Changsha’P High-Tech Zone. A visit was paid to the Changsha High-Tech Zone Exhibition Hall and a meeting held to learn more about Changsha High-Tech Zonegs business environment and the promotion of bilateral economic and trade exchanges, investment, and cooperation in the energy and education sectors.
BP China expressed that it is planning to engage within Changsha’s market in the retail sector and seeks municipal government support to do so; Repton International school representative, Chiway International Education, also looks forward to the Mayor’s support in realising their project. Mr Hu would like CBBC and Changsha municipal government to establish a daily communication scheme, and Vice Mayor, Mr Qiu, will take a lead in helping with UK projects in Changsha.
CBBC’s Changsha office was established in 2013 and has received support from the local provincial and municipal government. CBBC has already held three successful (Great British Brands Festivals) in Changsha with significant support from the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, and has assisted members in launching projects in Hunan. In April 2018, received further support and preferential policies from Changsha National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, to better facilitate the entrance of British companies into the Changsha market.
