Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
On 13th July 2001 Beijing was chosen to host the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. China is already preparing for the games and is keen for them to be a success. However, there is much that needs to be done. There are many opportunities for foreign businesses and contractors to participate.
Beijing intends to spend US$23.7bn on the construction of infrastructure and information facilities, improving the environment and building Olympic-standard sports stadiums. US$1.3bn of this will be spent on the development of venues, whilst $10.8bn will be invested in transportation, $1.8bn in infrastructure services and $5.5bn on improving the environment.
Venues
The Beijing 2008 Olympics are to be conducted in 37 venues. 32 of these are in Beijing and the remaining 5 are in Qingdao (sailing), Tianjin, Qinghuangdao, Shanghai and Shenyang (football). The central area, Olympic Green, consists of nearly half the venues in total; the Olympic Village, news and media centres and a large area of parkland. The ownership-consortia for the seven venue projects in Beijing will be announced later this year, giving rise to many opportunities for sub-contract suppliers.
Opportunities
Significant opportunities will be open to the following service providers
Contractors, Lawyers, Financers, Banks, Architects, Management Consultants
and suppliers of the following equipment:
Telecom Systems, Broadband Internet Access, Electronic Control Systems, Heating and Air-conditioning Units, Ventilation Equipment, Temporary Housing, Seating, Marine Equipment, Intelligent Transport Systems and many more areas.

Design projects, from the Olympic Logo to park development
Construction of 20 sports facilities, including the Olympic Green
Setting up Green belts around the city
Completing the 5th and 6th ring road networks
