Why Shandong?

Read CBBC's report on "Opportunities in Shandong"
Shandong is China’s third most populous province, ranks third in GDP terms and has a breadth of opportunities for UK companies.  First mover advantage, accessing new markets, low costs, location and logistics are all keys to the opportunities in Shandong.  Primary industry in Shandong is the largest in China by output (having substantial natural resources and fertile land). It is a leading manufacturing hub, second only to Guangdong (with good transport links and reasonable input costs); though the tertiary sector is smaller (government is investing in shortfall and bringing in expertise from overseas). Retail sales are the second highest of any province in China and Shandong is home to some of China’s best known brands (in business terms: Haier, Hisense, Tsingtao Beer; and culturally: Confucius, Tai Shan, Weifang kites). Full list of sector opportunities and government initiatives are included in the “Opportunities in Shandong” Report.

About the China Food Company
China Food Company (CFC) is based in Weifang, Shandong province and produces and distributes soya sauce and other condiments together with animal feed to all of Shandong (population 94 million) and the nearby provinces. To capitalise on its strong market position and to satisfy demand, the Company completed the construction of a modern soya sauce factory in the nearby city of Shou Guang in May 2010. Production at the new 266,666 square metre state-of-the-art soya sauce facility has now commenced, and will increase the Company's condiments production by 50,000 tonnes. China Food has a very strong brand for cooking and dipping sauces which are sold through a network of distributors and outlets of supermarket chains in Shandong and surrounding provinces such as Tesco, Wal Mart, Carrefour and Jialejia. China Food is expected to benefit also from the growth of international supermarket chains in China.
