Premier Wen in Britain for UK-China Summit

Premier Wen Jiabao's Speech: The Path to China's Future
The Royal Society, 27 June

Speaking at the Royal Society at the end of his two-day visit to the United Kingdom, China's Premier Wen Jiabao outlined his vision for "Tomorrow's China". Focusing on the need to extend the process of economic "reform and opening" across all areas of society, he expressed confidence in China's ability to develop into a more open, advanced and inclusive society. Stressing that China could learn much from the history of the developed economies in managing its own internal challenges, he pointed to the potential to deepen commercial, scientific and cultural cooperation between the UK and China, with increasing demand in China for the type of advanced engineering, low carbon technology and professional services in which the UK has particular strengths. By increasing exports of such goods and services to China, British firms will not only be making a valuable contribution to China's transition but also boosting economic growth in the UK.
