The city of Wuhan is situated in the intersection of the Yangtze River and the Hanshui River. The Yangtze River and Hanshui River divide Wuhan into three parts: Hankou, Hanyang and Wuchang, generally known as Wuhan's Three Towns. Wuhan occupies and area of 8.467kmsq. Wuhan's climate belongs to the subtropical zone monsoonal climate so there is abundant rainfell and four clear seasons. THe best times to visit are probably Spring (April to mid-June) and Autumn (late September to mid-November). During wonter, temperatures can drop to -5oC but snowfall is uncommon. Summer is hot and humid with temperatures as high as 40oC (104oF)

Scenic Spots

Yellow Crane Tower. One of the three famous towers in south China. The tower was first built in 223 A. D. The present one was re-built in 1985, and consists of main tower, side pavilions, corridors, memorial archways and so on. Location: Downtown Wuhan, north bank of Yangtze River (Wuchang) near the first Yangtze Bridge.

East Lake. Location: Wuchang area, south of the Yangtze River.

Wudang Mountain. The mountain is the sacred place of Taoism in China and has been listed as a World Heritage-protected site. There are 170 buildings from the foot to the peak. About 430 km northwest of Wuhan.

Shopping

Markets (popular goods, fake goods)
Jianghan Road.
Jianghan Road is located in the business central area in Jianghan District. It is a historic street with many old buildings, and all kinds of shops. Jianghan Road is a pedestrianised street.

Zhongshan Ave, Jianfang Ave and Zhongnan Ave. The first two avenues are located in Hankou which is on northern side of Yangtze River. Most of the shopping malls stand along these two avenues including Wuhan Plaza, Wuhan Department Store, Wuhan World Trade Plaza, Walmart and the Wufujing Department Store.

Wuhan Artwork Store.
Located in Zhongshan Ave. On 4th Floor, there are some carpets, bronze, and jades.

Antique Market in Hongkong Road. This is a large antique market consisting of many private shops. It is located in Hongkong Road where is near to CBBC Wuhan Office. Antiques, folk artworks, classic jewellery, rockery can be found in the market.

Hubei Museum. Some shops besides Hubei Museum sell silk products and other artworks.

Bargains (CDs, cameras)
CDs and cameras can be found at most of the shopping malls. Some CD shops located along those busy streets can provide kinds of cheap CDs. There is a very large CD store located in Pengliuyang Road, Wuchang called Boda CD World.

Unusual (bric-a-brac, novelty items, things to take home for the kids)
New People's Paradise.
The old People's Paradise is well known in China. It is a public entertainment place where people can see films, traditional local opera, chat, play cards etc. Bric-a-bracs, novelties, Chinese traditional handicrafts, CDs, popular goods are on the ground floor. Garments in Chinese style and western style are on the 1st floor. A shop called A Zi Ci Wei sells good quality Chinese style garments. Beauty shops and photography houses and restaurants are on the 2nd floor. Cinemas, Internet bars, Karaoke are on the 3rd and 4th floor.

Transportation

Getting to and from the airport: Most upmarket hotels have a shuttle bus to their hotel at fixed times. Ask at the hotel desks at the airport. A taxi from Wuhan Tianhe airport to the centre of Wuhan is approximately 70yuan and takes bout 40 minutes. Taxis are inexpensive and plentiful (3yuan initial fee).
